The Paul Chelko Blog

A collection of writings and thoughts, in his own words, originally posted to the original Paul Chelko blog.

On Paul Chelko’s Art:

A collection of thoughts, from those who knew his work best.
  • “Drawing is a spontaneous expression of the artist’s psyche and, as such, is as intimate as a kiss. Paul Chelko, A rare talent has the deceptive simplicity of contour that we find in Gauguin and Beardsley. The tremendous impact of his drawings recall Goya, who said, Give me a piece of charcoal and I will you a piece of art.“

    Fiona C. Thorpe
Royal Society of Art London, England
  • “Paul Chelko’s use of inks and watercolors in his paintings produce unusually luxurious and translucent effects. Such richness of color and form can only be achieved by someone who has mastered the subtle nuances of this medium.”

    Herbert A Kende
President Selected Artists Gallery Madison Avenue, NYC
  • “There is no spot in my heart for “soft” composition taken from a flank. Chelko’s head on conflicts are the only honest way to go Results: Inspired draftsmanship, control, a lot of wear and tear (on the artist) and composition of holistic American genius. No need to be timorous…. He’s great.
